About

Hi, I’m Bruce, the founder of Steam Press Media. I help marketing technology companies grow using content marketing.

Why focus on helping marketing automation companies to grow? It all goes back to a few experiences I’ve had in working to grow companies over the years.

In the 1990s, the family business used a very early version of “marketing automation” to send broadcast fax messages. Compared to visiting each prospect in person, this fax message was incredibly efficient. It produced leads! Unfortunately, unsolicited fax messages were not exactly popular because fax toner and paper were somewhat pricy in those days. Lesson: make sure your marketing doesn’t irritate your customers!

Fast forward to the early 2010s; I started to acquire my first few marketing clients. Using cold email and a humble Excel spreadsheet, I sent email after email by hand. It was a terrible grind. It also worked! However, the sheer pain and hassle of sending messages and manually tracking my progress in this way wore me down. I stopped with this prospecting process after about two months. As a result, the business entered a long try spell. That’s a polite way of saying that the business stopped growing completely. Without tangible progress, I find it tough to stay motivated. Maybe you can relate?

Relying on these manual methods made it painfully difficult to stay consistent with sales and marketing. Without consistent effort to fuel your marketing machine, your business will crash and burn. The roller coaster of inconsistent marketing results ended when I started my next project.

After reading “The 4 Hour Workweek,” for the second time, I was determined to start a new online project and make it successful. When I launched a project management website, I was determined to do better. At its height, Project Management Hacks had an email of over 6,000. Based on that audience, I was able to achieve a long-standing goal: publishing my first book, “Project Managers At Work.” Without email marketing systems, none of that would be possible. I also learned the magic of content marketing to earn permission to contact prospects.

Marketing is difficult. Crafting a message that connects to your market is only getting more difficult. That’s why marketing automation technology is booming. As of 2018, there are more than 6,000 companies in the marketing technology industry. I want to help MarTech companies to make marketing easier to execute. Every hour you save with marketing automation and working with a content marketing as a service agency is another hour you can put toward strategy, copy, and connecting with your audience.

Unfortunately, many marketing technology companies I know suffer from cobbler’s children syndrome. They are so busy with adding new features and helping customers become successful that marketing is neglected.

Alternatively, you might have one successful marketing channel like Google Ads, and your entire business growth is reliant on that channel. That single channel reliance adds a scary amount of risk to your business. However, you might not even realize that. That’s why you need to get a second opinion on the health of your business. To find out more about how we can work together, send me a message through the contact page.
